Day 108: Grilled Pork Chops

Pork chops on the grill

It’s going to take me a while to get the hang of this new grill, but I really don’t mind practicing with it every night.

  • Aperture: f/5.6
  • Camera: Canon EOS 60D
  • Focal length: 54 mm
  • ISO: 1600
  • Shutter speed: 1/160 s

Day 105: New Flash Toys

Lumiquest Softbox III and a Speedlite Umbrella Adapter

I knew these were coming from UPS, and I wanted to use them in my photo of the day. Unfortunately, they didn’t get delivered as early as I wanted. They were still involved in the photo, just not how I had planned.

Oh well, I’ll get some shots using them soon enough.

Day 101: Sun Sets on Stars Season

Sun setting on Dallas Stars hat

Yesterday, the Dallas Stars failed to make the playoffs when they lost to the Minnesota Wild. How this team went from first place in January to completely missing the playoffs three months later baffles me. Another lost season.

  • Aperture: f/5.6
  • Camera: Canon EOS 60D
  • Focal length: 42 mm
  • ISO: 400
  • Shutter speed: 1/125 s

Day 96: Mirror Attack

No chance to play with the flash tonight, so I grabbed this photo while we were running errands. I like to think he’s stuck in there, and I’m not letting him out.

  • Aperture: f/4
  • Camera: Canon EOS 60D
  • Focal length: 75 mm
  • ISO: 800
  • Shutter speed: 1/160 s

Day 88: Iron Man & War Machine

Iron Man and War Machine

Iron Man dropped by for some portrait work today, and brought his pal, War Machine. I think it went pretty well; we kept the drinks away from Stark, and managed not to blow anything up.

Day 86: ToDo List

ToDo List

Presented without comment.

Day 85: Strawberry Sundae

Strawberry Sundae

Hate to hit you with food shots on back-to-back days, but can you really blame me? The wife decided to surprise the kids with ice cream sundaes, so I grabbed a quick shot of the one she shared with our daughter.

Day 84: Crispy Santa Fe Chicken

Crispy Santa Fe Chicken

The wifey came home with a new recipe for supper tonight: Crispy Santa Fe Chicken. It came out of the over looking and smelling wonderful, so I decided to share it with all of you.

Day 82: Iron Man #1

Iron Man #1

This project is all about learning, and one tool photographers use when learning lighting, is inanimate models. In my case, I have enlisted the help of the Invincible Iron Man, who is usually quite mobile, but managed to remain impressively still during our session.

I’m pleased with how the light turned out in this one, I just wish I had nailed the DOF. Oh well, something to focus on in the next shoot, no pun intended.

Day 72: Courtney Rose

A rose flower

It’s 10:48pm on a Sunday night, and this is the first photo that I’m posting that didn’t come from my 60D. This is not some perfect photo I snapped with my iPhone, this is the “Oh crap, we’re at a friends house, I need a photo for today”, and the project is just to take a photo every day. It is not take a great photo everyday. This is one of those days.

If you want to blame someone, you can blame me. I’ll be blaming the owner of the roses. She knows what she did.

Day 64: Imagine Creativity Here

A whiteboard with a message on it

I’m going to let the photograph speak for itself.

Day 63: Pirate Projection

A carnival pirate effect

Everyone went to the carnival at the kid’s school, tonight. I took the camera and played with some different techniques. This pirate shot was one of my favorites.

Day 62: Light Sword Attitude

My son swinging a light sword in the backyard

Tonight, I played around with a technique I’ve never tried before, called second-curtain sync. Most of the shots were complete flops, but I’m pretty pleased with this one. My son had a little bit of attitude leak into this shot, and he also managed to carve out the first initial of his name. I think I’ll have to attempt this again, correct my mistakes, and see if I can get him one worthy of a frame for his room.

Day 60: Electric Green Elixir

A water bottle containing a green glowing liquid

What better way to start off the month of March, than with a nice bottle of electric green elixir. Just think, you might end up turning into The Hulk or Mr. Hyde. Then again, it could just be a nice power-zapping bottle of liquid Kryptonite. Sorry, the comic fanboy in me has to make an appearance from time to time.

Day 59: Teddy Bear and Sneakers

A teddy bear and hightop sneakers

A daughter’s favorite teddy bear silently watching over her hightop sneakers. It’s crazy the things that can tug at a Daddy’s heart-stings.

Day 58: Emmitt in My Kitchen

A bobble head of NFL star Emmitt Smith

NFL Hall-of-Famer, Emmitt Smith, in my kitchen for a portrait shoot. What can I say? I thought he’d be taller.

By the way, it’s much harder to shoot a bobble head than I counted on. You ever try to get one to sit still for a photo before?

Day 57: Young Mr. Hyde

My son looking crazy in a green glow

My seven-year-old unleashed his inner Mr. Hyde, tonight. I’m pretty sure it was inevitable.

Day 55: Dragonoid Biker

A toy dragonoid on the back of a motorcycle

I’m not sure if a Dragonoid would still call his bike a “Hog”, but he sure looks ready to do some cruisin’.

Day 54: Rubber Ducky

Ernie and his rubber ducky take a bath

Took this shot during my daughter’s bath tonight. Now, I’ve got that blasted “Rubber Ducky” song playing over and over in my head.

Day 49: Straw in Glass

A ice-filled glass with a straw in it

When you force yourself to take a photo every day, you find yourself looking for patterns and designs in everything. In this one, I liked the contrast between the lines in the table and the circle of the glass. The part that really makes this photo special to me, though, is the teeth marks in the straw. If I look at this photo twenty years from now, I’ll still know exactly whose glass this was, because of that straw. Love ya, Pixie!
